Dubai Mall was visited by over 111 million people in 2024 – more than the total number of tourists visiting France in an entire year. It’s difficult, then, to call this an ordinary shopping centre. It is more of a self-contained city of entertainment, dining and luxury that has been setting global industry standards since 2008.

A few facts that make an impression
Dubai Mall covers over 1,124,000 m² of total area, earning it the title of the world’s largest shopping mall according to Guinness World Records. The internal retail space exceeds 548,000 m², and visitors have access to four levels with over 1,200 shops and 160 dining outlets. The property is owned by Emaar Properties – the developer that also built the adjacent Burj Khalifa.
The mall opened on 4 November 2008, and in 2024 Emaar announced an expansion of 240 new luxury stores at an estimated cost of USD 408 million. The on-site car park accommodates over 14,000 vehicles and is equipped with an advanced system for guiding drivers to available spaces.
Location and getting there
Dubai Mall is located in the heart of Downtown Dubai, directly adjacent to Burj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world. The simplest way to get there is by renting a car in Dubai or by metro: the Red Line, Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall station. From the platform, a covered, air-conditioned pedestrian bridge leads to the entrance – the walk takes around 10–12 minutes and is comfortable even in the July heat.

Taxis and Uber stop at the main entrance on the Financial Centre Road side. If you prefer the bus, line 27 from the Deira district and line 29 from Ghubaiba both reach the Grand Drive entrance. Entry to the centre is completely free – only individual attractions and services inside require payment.
Shopping – Fashion Avenue and beyond
The heart of luxury retail at Dubai Mall is Fashion Avenue – a zone housing flagship boutiques from Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior and dozens of other global fashion houses. It is anchored by two department stores: Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale’s, both open seven days a week. Within the mall you will also find the world’s largest Adidas store and Kinokuniya – a bookshop with over half a million titles in more than a dozen languages.
The offer is not, however, aimed exclusively at luxury enthusiasts. Alongside global premium brands you will find popular high-street chains, electronics, sportswear and specialist stores. The upcoming expansion of 240 new luxury boutiques will further cement the mall’s position as a global fashion hub.
Attractions – what to see beyond the shops
Shopping is just one of many reasons to visit.
Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is one of the largest indoor aquariums in the world. The tank holds 10 million litres of water and is home to over 33,000 marine animals representing 140+ species – including sharks, rays and the famous king croc. Running through the centre of the tank is a 270-degree underwater tunnel that makes you feel as though you are diving – without a wetsuit. Tickets are worth booking in advance online.
Dubai Ice Rink is an Olympic-sized ice rink with ice thickness exceeding NHL standards – a surprising attraction in a country where outdoor temperatures exceed 45°C in summer. You can skate recreationally, watch hockey shows or hire ice bikes.
KidZania is an interactive mini-city where children take on the roles of doctors, firefighters, pilots and chefs. It is one of the most popular family attractions in all of Dubai.
Reel Cinemas offers 26 projection screens, including the largest IMAX screen in the region. The cinema complex also features VIP zones with in-seat service.
At one of the mall’s entrances stands a complete dinosaur skeleton that is 155 million years old – an original, not a replica. In 2017, Dubai Mall set a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest OLED screen, covering over 7,600 square feet of surface area.
Dubai Fountain – a spectacle right on the doorstep
Directly adjacent to Dubai Mall is Dubai Fountain – the world’s largest choreographed fountain system. The water jets reach heights of 150 metres, and the entire installation stretches over 270 metres in length. Shows take place every half hour from 18:00, accompanied by music and light effects. Entry to the promenade from which you watch the spectacle is free. Several restaurants with views of the fountain – for example on Fashion Avenue or the Waterfront Promenade – offer tables with a direct view of the water show.
Dining
Over 160 dining outlets create a complete cross-section of world cuisine. The Waterfront zone – with terraces facing the fountain and Burj Khalifa – is one of the most attractive dinner addresses. Promenade restaurants often stay open until late at night, well after the shops have closed.
Social Distrikt is an evening dining and lifestyle zone popular among Dubai residents – closer in feel to a café and urban bar atmosphere than a traditional food court. Inside the mall there is also a Chinatown featuring authentic Asian cuisine, teahouses and specialist shops.
Specific venues worth noting: Al Hallab (Lebanese cuisine, terrace with a fountain view), Eataly (Italian cuisine with an open kitchen and freshly baked goods on site) and Social House (an eclectic menu combining Asian and Mediterranean flavours). Booking a table on the fountain terrace on Fridays and Saturdays is practically essential.
Opening hours and the best time to visit Dubai Mall
Shops in Dubai Mall are open Monday to Thursday from 10:00 to 23:00. On Fridays and Saturdays – which in Dubai are the weekend days – hours extend to 10:00–00:00. Restaurants and attractions operate on their own schedules, often longer than the shops. During Ramadan, opening hours are modified, so it is worth checking the mall’s official website or app before your visit.
The optimal season to visit Dubai is November through March, when daytime temperatures range between 20–28°C. In summer, thermometers reach 45°C, but Dubai Mall’s air conditioning makes the venue a kind of cool oasis during those months. The quietest time is on weekdays, shortly after opening – around 10:00–12:00.
Before you leave home – a few practical tips
Download the Dubai Mall app on iOS or Android – it includes an interactive map, indoor navigation to specific shops and information about current events. The real-time parking system shows available spaces, saving time when traffic is heavy.
Buy tickets for the aquarium, ice rink and KidZania in advance through the mall’s website or a booking portal – at weekends, queues at the ticket counters can be long. Entry to the centre itself is free – and that already gives you access to the fountain, the dinosaur skeleton, the OLED screen, exhibition spaces and the full architecture of the venue.
