A flower garden in the middle of the desert – where did Miracle Garden come from?

Imagine 72,000 square meters of blooming plants in a place where summer temperatures exceed 50°C. It sounds absurd, yet Miracle Garden in Dubai exists and attracts millions of visitors from around the world every year. It is the largest natural flower garden on Earth, which literally grew out of the sand.

The garden opened on February 14, 2013, on Valentine’s Day, which was no coincidence. The project was led by Akar Landscaping Services and Agriculture, headed by Abdel Naser Rahhal. Its goal was singular: to turn Dubai’s desert landscape into a colorful oasis, proving that even in an extreme climate something astonishing could be created. The first phase covered 21,000 m² and approximately 45 million flowers. Today, Dubai Miracle Garden spans an area more than three times larger, and the number of plants has grown accordingly with the scale of its creators’ ambitions.

Guinness World Records and numbers that speak for themselves

The scale of this place is impressive even on paper. Across 72,000 m², more than 150 million flowers representing 120 different species grow here, forming 50 spectacular themed compositions. The garden has been entered into the Guinness Book of World Records three times.

One of these records belongs to a flower installation in the shape of an Emirates Airbus A380 – recognized as the largest floral structure in the world. The second record is an 18-meter topiary figure of Mickey Mouse in Disney Avenue, made from 100,000 flowers and plants, officially designated as “the world’s largest topiary structure” (Guinness 2018). It’s hard to find another place in the world where gardening has reached such an unexpected level.

What to see at Miracle Garden? The top attractions

Each season brings new arrangements and installations, so Miracle Garden never looks the same as it did the year before. Permanent highlights you shouldn’t miss:

  • Emirates Airbus A380 – a full-size airplane covered in millions of live flowers, entered into the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest installation of its kind in the world
Disney Avenue – a themed zone with topiary figures of Disney characters, including the record-breaking Mickey Mouse figure
Heart Avenue – tunnels and arches shaped like hearts, a famous spot for photos and romantic walks
Flower castles and palaces – large-scale structures made of live plants, with new themes appearing every edition
Flower clock – one of the more precise garden compositions, standing out against typical flower parks

In the 2025/2026 season, a miniature train for children and bumper cars were added, and the garden was enriched with a trampoline park featuring 12 stations. A dining area and cafés round out the offerings if you’re planning to spend several hours there.

When is Miracle Garden open? Seasonality and hours

Dubai Miracle Garden operates only during the cooler months. The 2025/2026 season runs from September 29, 2025 to April 30, 2026. During the peak summer heat, the garden remains closed – the vegetation simply wouldn’t survive temperatures exceeding 40°C.

If you want to see the flowers in full bloom, aim for January or February – that’s when the garden looks its best. Opening hours for the 2025/2026 season: 9:00 AM–11:00 PM on weekdays, 9:00 AM–12:00 AM on weekends. It’s also worth knowing that entry is free on your birthday – simply show your passport or ID.

Miracle Garden tickets – how much does entry cost?

Ticket prices for the 2025/2026 season for tourists (non-UAE residents) are:

  • Adults: 105 AED
  • Children 3–13 years: 80 AED
  • Children under 3: free
  • People with disabilities: free
  • UAE residents: 30% discount (73.5 AED)

You can buy tickets at the ticket booths by the three main entrance gates – the garden accepts cash in dirhams, as well as debit and credit cards. During peak season, it’s worth considering buying online in advance, especially for weekends, when queues can be long.

How to get to Miracle Garden?

The garden is located in the Al Barsha South 3 district, in the heart of Dubailand. The nearest metro station isn’t really an option, though – Miracle Garden is not directly connected to the metro network. You can choose one of three ways to get there:

RTA bus No. 105 runs from Mall of the Emirates – this is the cheapest option, suitable if you’re not planning to rent a car. Taxi and Uber are the most convenient alternative, especially from central Dubai. If you’re driving your own car, a large parking lot awaits at the garden.

Rules in the Garden – what to know before entering

A few things that will help you avoid unpleasant surprises on site. Drones and professional photography equipment are prohibited within the garden – any professional camera will be confiscated at the entrance. Smartphone photos are absolutely allowed. There are also photographers in green shirts working on-site who take photos of guests – picking up the finished print is free.

Picking flowers is not allowed, nor is bringing your own food and drinks from outside – cafés and food courts operate within the garden, so there’s no shortage of options. Be prepared for souvenir vendors, who can be quite persistent – balloons, garlands, various trinkets. A calm “no” is usually enough.

Ecology in the heart of the desert – how does it even work?

This is a question almost everyone asks themselves the first time they hear about a garden in the desert. The answer lies in an irrigation system based on greywater – that is, water that has already been used once, which after filtration is returned to circulation. The garden uses several hundred thousand liters daily, but none of those liters come directly from the water supply network as fresh water. It’s a well-thought-out recycling system that makes maintaining 150 million flowers in the middle of the desert technically feasible and ecologically justified.

Is Miracle Garden worth visiting?

If you’re in Dubai between October and April, then definitely yes. Miracle Garden is one of those attractions that delivers experiences found nowhere else, regardless of whether you’re a botany enthusiast, a photographer, or simply looking for something different from yet another skyscraper or shopping mall.

This place works great for families with children, couples looking for a romantic atmosphere, and photographers, both amateur and more advanced. People expecting adrenaline or active sports may feel somewhat unsatisfied, as this is primarily a calm place for strolling and admiring. The optimal time to visit is in the afternoon, when the lighting is best for photos, and the evening illuminations complete the experience.
